Overall Opinion: ☆☆☆☆☆
I DNF'd this book. I can count on one hand how many books I have done this with. You can judge, but for me personally, these did not do it for me. 1. Wicked 2. Poppy Wars 3. Morning Glory Milking Farm and now this one. Here is why...
Starting out I was interested in the book, the writing was a little different for me. But I put it on the fact that I had just finished rereading ACOTAR so the writing styles are different. So I read on. More and more into the book, the characters did not capture my attention, I did not like the main characters. The robot "horses" were confusing to me. The battles she wrote into the book which I think were supposed to add suspense and interest just did not do that for me.
She did have some twists and turns in the read that made me keep reading as long as I did.
But overall the story was confusing, the writing was not my style, the characters were forgettable or just not likable. I would not recommend this book.
0 out of 5 Stars for me. :(
12/31 -- I started on Heaven Breaker by Sara Wolf
I got this book for Christmas from my husband. Without looking at the sleeve description, my first thoughts were
1. This book is beautiful! ( I mean look at it!)
2. This is more likely a fantasy novel
3. Something to do with space maybe?

I started reading on New Year's Eve. First thoughts:
1. First page starts with a bang, not much background world building yet
2. What are these steeds?
3. Why did I not think it would be set in a spaceship, especially when I figured it would have something to do with space??
4. Red Rider-- the love interest? Even if he is involved with who she is impersonating?
Stopped reading when I got to Chapter 4, page 23.
1/3/25
I read through pages 23-61 today.... I will say it is getting more enjoyable to read and getting more interesting as a read more. Reading the first 4 chapters did not catch my attention but reading through these next 6 chapters has gotten me more invested to continue.
Here are more thoughts as I read through...
1. In the first chapter, the author mentioned 3 children, then a fourth was introduced in a short paragraph after chapter 5. I believe we have been introduced to 3 of the 4 children ( now grown) at this point in the book. The first being Synali our main character, the second being Rax, our aformentioned Red Rider, the third is still a mystery to me and the 4th being Rain, a trained assassin.
2. We are introduced to a noble named Dravik who saved our FMC (femaile main character) and offers her a deal to finish what she started in return for a championship. Something tells me that this Dravik character is somehow related to our FMC.
3. A resistance of government is mentioned very breifly in these chapters that I read, but I think that it will become a key part later. It is mentioned that they are probablly aided by a noble. At this point I am thinking Dravik is that noble.
4. It also mentioned that Dravik changed his eye color to gray. I think this is significant somehow to his character but I can't think of why just yet.
Thats it for these 40 pages or so...
1/8/25
Pages 61-96
I feel like not much happened in these 30 or so pages. We met another character tha I'm not sure where he will fit in yet. We find out who exactly Dravik is ( big twist! that I did not expect). We see the instant attraction for Rax for out female lead. But I feel like that is about it!
The book is interesting but it's not holding my attention all the time and is not giving that feeling of can't put it down. I am going to continue for awhile more with the Cup competitions coming up and the potential for more interesting deelopments between Rax and our FMC as well as more of Dravik's back story.
That's it for now...
1/17 -Taking a break for rereading Fourth Wing, Iron Flame and ONYX STORM! 3/12
Pages 96-130
Again not much has happened in these 30ish pages. Some small things are revealed about some of the characters. I feel like there are too many storylines with not enough background information so everything is getting a little hard to remember. My hope is everything will come together soon.
Here was what my thoughts and impressions were:
1 The king's rider who is in a hoverchair ( maybe parapalegic) is probably also the king's son from his second marriage.
2. There is something going on with the power to the station that the son is trying to fix.
3. The fourth child from the beginning of the book is revealled. Mirelle who is the current House Hautclaure( spelling is probably wrong and main character's enemy) rider. I actually really like her, she is honorable though with it, she is also naive to the workings of some of the more corrupt parts of the system.
That's all for now. It's still not capturing my attention where I can't put the book down unfortunately. I feel like I may DNF if it doesn't get much better by the halfway mark.
3/13
Pages 130 - 171
I don't think I'm going to be able to continue. This book just isn't it for me. I'm having trouble visuallizing what is going on in the book. I have read about 2 battle round now and it just was so hard to understand what was going on. There has been what feels like no development of the characters or their relationships. I don't know if this is because I am not used to reading true sci fi novels or it's just not my prefered writing style. I think this may be where I put the book down and call it a loss for me and start on another book.
Life's too short to spend time on books that I can't get into.
Stay tuned for another page for the start of a new book.
